  87. This package contains the Instant File Access(TM) Version 4.00, by
  88. Alexoft.  This document contains only a brief description of the package
  89. and its features, along with instructions for its installation. Quite
  90. detailed documentation is included in the package, but it is in archived
  91. form, and is more easily read after installation.

  93. Instant File Access adds many features to the File Dialogs of your
  94. Windows programs. It allows you to use Long File Names when creating new
  95. documents, and lets you view these long names in the regular File and
  96. Directory listboxes. It also lets you see actual Windows 95 long
  97. filenames with your Win 3.1x applications.

  99. Instant File Access is a shareware program.  This evaluation version
  100. includes all features of the program, and is not crippled in any way.
  101. You may use it for up to 30 days, without charge.  If you like the
  102. program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation period, you
  103. are required to pay for the program (run IFAREG.EXE for more details).
  104. Any fee you may have paid to others (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to

  149. ===== Installation =====================================

  151. The installation procedure for Instant File Access is quite simple.  The
  152. package includes a program, "SETUP.EXE", which automates the entire
  153. process.  You will need about 690 Kb of available disk space on the
  154. hard drive on which you plan to install Instant File Access.
  155.  
  156. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  157. Instant File Access.
  158.  
  159.  
  160. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  161.  
  162. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  163.  
  164.    o  Place IFA distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the
  165.       appropriate diskette drive.
  166.  
  167.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  168.       For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A:, type
  169.       the MS-DOS command, "WIN A:SETUP".
  170.  
  171.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  172.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  173.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  174.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  175.       the IFA files to that directory. If you so direct it, the
  176.       installation program will install executable programs and
  177.       documentation in other directories of your choice.  It will make
  178.       no other changes; specifically, it will not modify your
  179.       autoexec.bat or config.sys files.

  182. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  183.  
  184. If you downloaded Instant File Access (IFA) from a BBS (or received it
  185. in the form of archive files from some other source), you will need to
  186. perform the following steps.
  187.  
  188.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  189.       directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  190.       varies, depending on the form in which you received the package.
  191.       In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means
  192.       that you already have the necessary tools and knowledge to
  193.       perform this step.  If not, you should be able to obtain
  194.       directions for this from the same source from which you received
  195.       the package.

  197.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  198.       example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted
  199.       the IFA package is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the MS-DOS
